  • Therapeutic Approach

My therapeutic approach is informed by psychoanalytic thinking and focuses on developing a deeper understanding of your inner experience. Our early experiences-especially those involving shame, hurt, or survival-based coping-often shape how we think about ourselves and relate to others, even when we are not fully aware of their influence. These patterns can live beneath the surface and affect emotions and relationships. Together, we explore recurring patterns in your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and consider what may underlie them. The goal is to strengthen your ability to observe your experience with curiosity and openness and to understand how these patterns shape your relationships and everyday life.

Emotional distress can be overwhelming, and we naturally develop ways of protecting ourselves from difficult feelings. This can show up as painful emotional experiences, stuck patterns, or behaviors that are hard to change. Together we explore these experiences with patience and curiosity. Lasting change involves learning new ways of relating to difficult emotions, developing greater flexibility in how you relate to yourself and others, and building a stronger sense of inner trust and hope.

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy emphasizes your experience in the present moment. Meeting multiple times each week provides the continuity and depth needed to develop a meaningful therapeutic relationship and explore the concerns and patterns that bring you to therapy. Through this ongoing process, you can develop a deeper understanding of yourself and discover new possibilities for engaging with your life.
